LAHORE: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (Pemra) took notice of complaints against two television channels for airing 'provocative' content against the Ahmadi community.
Anjuman Ahmedia Pakistan president registered a complaint with the media watchdog against Neo TV and Channel 92 alongside "a large number of complaints from the general public" against content aired by Neo TV's 'Harf-e-Raz' and Channel 92's 'Subha-e-Noor' shows, a Pemra statement said.
The complaints termed the content aired in the shows as "provocative against a minority whose members are already threatened, harassed and have suffered a number of terrorist attacks in the past".
"The complainants have also mentioned that such programming serves no national interest and is rather incitement to violence against minorities which is in violations of National Action Plan and Pemra laws."
Pemra forwarded the complaint to the Council of Complaints in Lahore for further action, adding that complainants had requested the regulator to take action against content "promoting disharmony among people".
The regulatory body made it clear that according to Pemra laws, both the channels and complainants will be provided with opportunities for hearing before a decision is recommended.

Licenses of both TV channels should be cancelled for creating hatred and tensions amongst the population of the country and the responsible persons should be jailed.

Use of public forum to foster hatred should be un reservedly condemned and firm action taken.
Pakistan was formed on the basis of respecting minorities rights and freedoms tragically it had never been followed.

The complainant have not highlighted the hate material. All of us are commenting without knowing the substance of "provocative" material. The majority in Pakistan in %age terms had suffered a lot. Who will take the notice?

It is a good step taken by NEPRA to stop spreading of hat-redness against Ahmadis. They have equal rights like other Pakistanis to live in this country.

I agree with Pemra related to Subhe naw at 92 channel. I'd discontinued watching this program since it targets sometimes directly and sometimes indirectly to a specific religeous segment of our society.

There should be swift action against these channels and those behind it. There should be zero tolerance towards these hate filled propaganda. We need to look after our citizens regardless of their religion. Religion is a private matter. Every citizen should be equal in the eyes of law and the State shouldn't give importance to one religion over another.

It seems National Action Plan is no more in place else how could tv channels broadcast such programs against any minority group and how could PEMRA allow it. This is strange that PEMRA remained silent till it received complaint. Such channels which are engaged in spreading hatred should be immediately blocked by PEMRA.

Banning the chanel won't do much. PEMRA and authority should go after the producers, director and participants. They should be fine with heavy fine, and to educate community to refrain from such hatred.

Pakistan should be governed by the rules as great Quaid-e-Azam wished. Quaid-e-Azam declared that in Pakistan no one will be discriminated due to cast, creed, religion or political affiliation. Every one will be equal.
