A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mirage jet crashed near Karachi's Musharraf Colony area on Tuesday, police said, adding the pilot Wing Commander Fayyaz died in the incident.
"A Mirage plane crashed near Musharraf colony," Senior Superintendent Police city confirmed.
The PAF aircraft took off from Masroor Base and crashed during flight at Musharraf Colony, it was reported.
The jet was on a routine operational training mission when it crashed, a spokesperson from PAF said.
Rescue teams reached the site of the crash.
"No loss of civilian life and property has been reported on ground," a press release by PAF stated.
"A board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of accident," it added.

Let's hope that the pilot ejected safely and there is no loss of life on the ground.
Given the limited resources, PAF has a good safety record. These planes are now very old and have been in service for circa 40 years so the tax payer has really got their money's worth from the PAF.

PAF Pilots ensure that they guide the aircraft to a less populated area to limit civilian casualties in the event of aircraft failure/crash. I personally witnessed an air crash involving a brave young pilot named Jehanzeb (if memory serves me well) and his T-37 tainer jet. He crashed in the GIKI university but till his last breath guided the aircraft away from the students and population and gave his life away in the process.
I just hope that in this case the pilot ejected safely and that no one was hurt on the ground.

@Bengali from Babgalore LCA is a non-feasible, low technology aircraft. PAF already is operating several squadrons of JF-17. Its better they focus on homegrown technology for light aircrafts and trainers and only import when there is a need for sophisticated 4.5 to 5th gen aircrafts, which the LCA is not.

Yeah, I agree with the ones saying that there have been a lot of PAF crashes recently. This is probably due to a few factors such as, outdated planes, bad service and maintenance, not retiring planes when they should be.
I also think that this sends the IAF a very clear message that the PAF isn't as READY and well prepped for combat, as they claim to be. If they cant handle routine practice/procedural flights, they have no chance of being successful in combat. Sad to see the condition of PAF, as it has started sounding more like PIA.

Yes but the replacement of aircraft does not happen just because you have a few crashes. It is part and parcel of operating an air force. PAF has to take a phased replacement approach. All of the existing F-7 and Mirage squadrons are already on schedule to be replaced by JF-17s.

Unfortunately this not as simple as suggested by readers that exchange with modern one . buying a fighter plane is a very costly matter and even replacing one squrden of jet with new one put lot of pressure on nation financial resources . so pilot have to put their life on risk by flying out of order and aging fighter plane. In India same thing hapenned with aged mig 21 fighter plane also as in lot of crashes very presius pilots lives lost. But now India is replacing them with modern fighter .

We scorn at "China ka product" because we have been exposed to the cheapest grade of product they churn out in Sunday/Tuesday bazaars. China's technological prowess is easily much better than that of its regional rivals. Its interesting to note that they are involved in setting up one of the largest Nuclear Power plants , in the UK and several others in Turkey and elsewhere in the world. Do you that the majority of the high end electronics/finished products that we use today are made in China, from the meticulously, ridiculously high quality controlled Iphones, to satellite nav systems, to aircraft avionics, to sportscar ECUs even. When it comes to making serious products, China has set a surprisingly high standard.

Its a big tragedy that Wing Commander Fayyaz died of injuries when he parachuted from a ill fated plane. I hope PAF inquiry board find the cause of the technical issue and check the remaining planes . Pakistan can't afford to lose such a qualified and skilled pilot who gave his life so that we can live as a free nation. May God have mercy on his soul and give the courage to the family to bear this tremendous loss. I wish we knew more about the pilot, his family life, his home town, school he went to and number of years in the PAF.
