Army Chief General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday vowed that the law enforcement agencies and Sindh government will continue to strive till the “complete restoration of peace for common citizen of Karachi”.

Gen Raheel said this during his visit to Corps Headquarters Karachi where attended the ongoing exercise "Resilient Response" of Southern Command, read a statement issued by the military's media wing.

He also presided over a security conference which was attended by the corps commander, Director General ISI, Director General Military Intelligence, Director General Military Operations and DG Rangers.

According to the statement, he appreciated the accomplishments of security forces and intelligence agencies for improved law and order situation in the metropolis.

Gen Raheel directed the security forces to continue focused operations in conjunction with other LEAs and provincial government for complete restoration of peace for common citizen of Karachi.

Later, the army chief was briefed about the conduct and conclusions of the exercise "Resilient Response" encompassing both defensive and offensive operations, the Inter-Services Public Relations stated.

Talking to participants, Gen Raheel expressed his complete satisfaction over enhanced battle worthiness and operational preparedness of formations.

The military establishment has taken direct ownership of Karachi operation as the Gen Raheel has repeatedly termed lasting peace in the country’s business capital the “ultimate aim” of the Rangers-led operation.

“Peace (in Karachi) is crucial because of its direct link with the country’s economic progress,” he had said earlier this year.

The resolve showed by the chief of army staff to restore peace in Karachi at a meeting at the Corps Headquarters was blended with the message that the operation, launched over two years ago, was not going to end anytime soon.
