Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated a 75-kilometre-long section of the Karachi-Hyderabad M-9 Motorway.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the premier expressed satisfaction that work on the motorway is "60 per cent complete".
"Today, people are witnessing a naya Pakistan being built," Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said. "Motorways are no longer a distant dream. All promises will be fulfilled by 2018."
"Today the world is seeing a naya Pakistan."
"We spent day and night trying to strengthen the economy. Today the nation is beginning to stand on its own two feet."
"Bridges, interchanges and service roads are being built. On the other side, work on the Multan-Sukkur motorway has been intitiated... Building the nation is not a game," he added.
"When we took the reigns of the country, we were in a sorry economic state. There were youngsters with skills but no one to employ them. In such times, there are negative forces that try to mislead these youngsters," he cautioned.
"Any country in the world that has become modern started with creating better infrastructure... and Pakistan could have seen the progress that we started in 1999 had we not been stopped halfway through," he said.
"Electricity had abandoned us, as if it was unhappy with is. But we have started bringing it back to Pakistan. 1,000 megawatts will be added to the grid this year," he said signalling the government's intent to rely more on renewable energy.
"Load shedding will end completely in 2018. Solar power and wind mill projects are being created. We are looking ahead, thinking of the future requirement for power," he added.
"These are the problems we are focusing on, we don't have time for dharnas," he said in a veiled reference to his opposition.
He challenged the opposition to compete against him on the basis of progress and development.
Construction on the 136-kilometre-long six-lane motorway began in Sept 2015 and is expected to be completed by March 2018 at a cost of Rs36 billion, Radio Pakistan reported.
The completed section of the M-9 has four interchanges ─ the Dada Bhoy, Industrial Valley, Nooriabad and Thano Bola Khan interchanges.
These interchanges will provide access to various areas, including Keer Thar National Park, Jhampeer, Kinjhar Jheel and Thano Ahmed Khan.

More important for 'Pakistanis' to see the 'Naya Pakistan' than the world or through the eyes of the world.
Motorways, expressways, BRTS, Metro, other mega projects won't build a 'Naya Pakistan...but investment in human development like education...100% enrollment for out of school kids. 100% literacy in coming years(minus the adult population, though that can also be improved with adult education).
Health care for all, which cuts across the cross section of the people, higher learning universities, center of excellence, R&D in science and tech.
Justice and level playing field for all, meritocracy and not cronyism, pluralism and not exclusiveness...will take Pakistan to a 'Naya Pakistan'.

why PM is in hurry to inaugurate 75 km stretch on a 136 km motorway ??? when his apetite for remaining in cameras will be quinched ? threre is no sense to inaugurate a section of road, which is not connecting towns. it is a karachi / hyderabad motorway, so there seems to be no logic in inaugrating its portion. i have driven on this portion, and must say, the quality is very good. but planning is pathetic. by the time it completes in march 2018, the three lane motorway will be too short to sustain the ever increasing traffic. the actual requirement is of at least 5 lanes a side if six is considered a luxury.

The health and education is very important and highways bring people closer to these facilities.
I know the USA and Canada are so rich and modern because they had connected their cities and towns through highways and railways. Be thankful that things are getting better plus the Nawaz government has announced to build about ten or so very large hospital's in many cities in all provinces.

This is what Pakistanis get so excited about when a motorway is mentioned. Most highways in India on major routes are quite like this. The speed at which India is making their highways, 75 Km is not much to talk about.

In this the so called "NAYA PAKISTAN" the toll tax is 5 Times higher, toll tax was Rs.30, which is now increased to Rs.150. This money will be extra burden on poor people of Pakistan.

Excellent model of development by PM. You build motorways, roads, flourish business, collect more revenue to invest in social sector. For those who are shouting for better health and better education, question for them is from where resources would be available for them? Already Punjab Govt spends 500 billion on education and health and most of the money goes for salaries little left to spend on treatments. Those chanting for better health and education, seems very much buying IK arguments without doing any studies I am afraid. Mr IK has done no miracle in KPK. So why trust him?

Water, food, Education, law and order, Shelter, health, human resource development are priorities. Motorways are developed because they are visible, water and drainage are never built because they are buried below ground and no one can see them, hence no votes. Political leaders of all shades need to come to an agreement nation wide on what exactly are the priorities. Other nations do just that, we only fight each other.

That one should die on the road than to be brought in for medical treatment and a civil hospital. All gov run dept need a strong Erdogan style cleansing.

Every project must be transparent and fully accountable. Only then would the people of Pakistan benefit, and not some politicians who abused power to rob the nation. PM Nawaz Sharif must be truthful about his Panama companies and expensive properties in London. The people of Pakistan demand honesty from the elected leaders.

Plus monies are paid directly in foreign land in safe banking heavens. School. Education, health and public services practically produce no return measurably. Unless you become likes of Zardari. The money should have been spent on provision of basic necessities like clean water,schools,colleges,hospitals and other crucial wefare initiatives eg agricultural /Industrial infrastructure,repairing existing roads .All we hear from them is inauguration of this Motorway and that Motorway whereas the link roads to cities and rural areas are dangerious to be used due to their pathetic condition.No one is taking any initiative to repair these broken roads .They have no feelings for the public .They are publicity hungry and they think that they can deceive the public .May be they are right!!!!

PM please read these comments and heed. Parliamentarians make our PM what public wants as this is your job to keep PM abreast of requirements and demands by private sector. Looks like PM is lost.

Of course NS will inaugurate these motorways built with steel of ittefaq foundries and NS enterprises. For naive people on this forum please read up on under the table deals. NS is no less than Mr 20%, in fact he is probably Mr 40%. Wake up you people before it's too late. These people are worth over $2 billion each.
