TIMERGARA: Lower Dir Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Wazir on Friday inaugurated four link roads in suburban villages of Khall and Rabat.

The projects have been completed by the Community Driven Local Development (CDLD), a project of Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) with the assistance of the European Union at a cost of Rs6.2 million.

CDLD programme officer Saba Khan, district finance officer Roidar Ali and a large number of local elders were present on the occasion.

On the occasion, Mr Wazir appreciated the role of SRSP in development of the area. He said the SRSP had so far completed 517 development projects in all the union councils of the district at a cost of Rs450 million, while 150 more development projects were in the pipeline.

The deputy commissioner said these projects included link roads, streets pavement, construction of community centres, additional rooms in schools and provision of clean drinking water to residents. He said all the projects were approved purely on merit without any political interference.

Mr Wazir said that local communities also put their 10 per cent financial contribution under the participatory approach of development. Also in the day, the deputy commissioner gave away shields, certificates and cash prizes to 42 health officials for running successful anti-polio drive in the district.

A function in this regard was held at Balambat which was attended by representatives of local government and officials of health department.

The function was also addressed by district nazim Mohammad Rasool Khan and DHO Shaukat Ali.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Wazir said that Lower Dir stood first in zone-IV while second in the province during the recent national immunisation drive against polio. He said that 100 per cent target was achieved in the district, where 276, 500 children were vaccinated.
