Pakistan football team captain Kaleemullah Khan has lauded the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for providing a platform for athletes from various sports backgrounds.

Speaking to DawnNews, the 24-year old football prodigy praised the PSL for including not just cricketers but also asking players from other sports to be involved with the league.

“Involving sportsmen from other sports is a good step by the franchises. They have even asked athletes from other sports to do something substantial for the country and be part of PSL,” he told the DawnNews.

“PSL is the biggest sports event in Pakistan and it is sending a positive image for the country.” He said, adding that a league on the same level should be organised for football as well, which would give the game a lot of promotion in the country and provide young players a chance to come forward.

Kaleemullah expressed his attachment with cricket, stating, “Cricket is a sport played across our country and telecasted on TV the most. So I have been watching stars like Shahid Afridi, Umar Gul and Misbahul Haq playing since childhood. Now, after putting in a lot of effort, I have come to the point that I am participating with these players. It’s a moment of pride for me,” said the captain of the national football team.

Kaleemullah, who has played 24 international games for the country, said that he conducted some dribbling practices with the players of the Quetta Gladiators during their training session. “I am a big fan of some of the players and when they asked me to teach them some football skills it was as if my dream of playing with them came true.”
