ISLAMABAD: The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project is aimed at bringing more benefits and prosperity to the peoples of both countries, said Gen Zhang Youxia, vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission.

He further said that Pak-China military cooperation was an important pillar of bilateral relations and the two militaries should strengthen this cooperation to safeguard common security challenges.

China greatly valued its time-tested relations with Pakistan and its army, said Gen Zhang during a meeting with Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa in Beijing, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

Both sides also discussed areas of further military cooperation in counterterrorism, arms and equipment technology and training.

Gen Bajwa thanked Gen Zhang for his country’s support and cooperation.

Pakistan’s Ambassador to China was also present during the meeting.

The army chief arrived in China on Sept 16 on a three-day official visit. On Monday, he visited the headquarters of People’s Liberation Army and met PLA chief Gen Han Weiguo.
