Yasin Wattoo killed in accident

LAHORE, April 29: Veteran politician and former federal minister Mian Yasin Khan Wattoo died in an accident on Multan Road in Mangamandi on Monday.

Mr Wattoo along with his driver was on his way to his Lahore residence from his native town in Depalpur, Okara, when his car (LRA-113) struck against a tree.

Mr Wattoo and his driver sustained serious injuries. Passers-by rushed them to a nearby hospital. Mr Watto died on way to the hospital and his driver was stated to be in critical condition till the filing of this report.

Later, the body was taken to his native town where his funeral prayers and burial were held.

Among those who attended the funeral prayers included former president Rafique Tarar, former Punjab governor and Punjab PML-N president Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa.

Qul will be held on May 1 (Wednesday) at 3pm at his native village Jamat Kot.

By starting his career from local body politics in 1960, Yasin Watto first became a minister in the cabinet of Ayub Khan. He joined the PPP sometime after its launching and remained its secretary general till the hanging of Z.A. Bhutto. Later, Mr Wattoo joined the PML. He remained a federal minister in the Junejo cabinet, a minister for parliamentary affairs in the Nawaz government and also an education minister for sometime in the same cabinet.
