MULTAN, March 26 Prof Dr Ali Raza Gardezi, the executive director of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology, said on Thursday the institute`s theatre complex having five operation theatres had been completed at a cost of Rs110 million.

In a briefing on Thursday, Dr Gardezi said the complex was highly equipped and the largest in the whole of South Asia. It was prefabricated in Germany whose technicians and engineers visited the institute and completed the construction work.

He said the complex had been designed to provide a germ-free environment and had filtered air supply with laminar flow system which prevents infection during surgery.

He said a successful heart operation of 20-year-old Maria of Jhang was performed in the complex on Tuesday last by Dr Anjum Jalal, Dr Allah Bakhsh and Dr Ghulam Ahmad.
