Rapid and illegal growth is crowding out the “old city” of Lahore - the section of the eastern hub fortified by a wall during the Mughal era - while its unique carved wood balconies jutting on to brick-lined streets fall into disrepair.
At least 145,000 people live jam-packed in the area that houses the famed 16th-17th century Lahore Fort and Badshahi Mosque and is spread over just 2.6 square kilometres. – AFP Photos

This place can be a major tourist attraction and a priceless cultural gift from us to our future generations if it's properly preserved and preventive repair carried out on it regularly. Kick out all illegal commercial entities and enforce a strict ban on any new construction/addition/non-permitted renovation. Electricity, waste water drains, telephony, etc, should be all underground and preferably completed before lining/repairing more streets.
