RAWALPINDI, Oct 30: In an attempt to prevent the brother of former deputy speaker of the National Assembly, Haji Nawaz Khokhar from going abroad, the police have requested the authorities concerned to put his name on the Exit Control List (ECL) along with his two sons.

Imtiaz Khokhar alias Taji Khokhar, younger brother of Haji Nawaz Khokhar who served as deputy speaker of the National Assembly from 1990 to 1993, was allegedly involved in a murder and land grabbing case.

Police assisted by Elite Force commandoes conducted a raid on the residence of Taji Khokhar in Dhoke Gangal, on Friday, but he managed to evade arrest.

The police said that nobody was in the house.

City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokhar confirmed that a police raid was carried out on the residence of Taji Khokhar to arrest him but he was not available.

The CPO said: “The police had arrest warrants for Imtiaz Khokhar when the raid took place but he had gone to Karachi.”

The murder case involves Ms Sabira, wife of Raja Yaqoob who was gunned down at the site of the disputed land in Dhoke Gangal on August 17.

The incident happened when a commission appointed by Civil Judge Sardar Hamid was trying to resolve the dispute in the presence of the man who had allegedly grabbed it.

Raja Yaqoob, the husband of the deceased, had accused 13 persons as murder suspects in the FIR registered with the Airport police.

Of the 13 murder suspects, the police have already arrested seven and dispatched them to jail.

However, the six remaining suspects, including Taji Khokhar and his two sons, are yet to be captured.

Since the investigation into the murder case was shifted to the central police office Lahore, IG Police Office appointed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Abu-Bakr Khudabaksh and SSP Raja Basharat to investigate the murder case.

The high powered police inquiry team had already visited Rawalpindi to initiate the investigation into the murder case as it involved influential people like Taji Khokhar and his two sons Umer Khokhar and Farrukh Khokhar.

However, the inquiry team recorded the statements of witnesses and the family members of the deceased woman.
