PESHAWAR, Oct 27 PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif has asked the government to end corruption in order to curb the skyrocketing prices in the country.

Addressing a press conference at the residence of PML-N Secretary General Senator Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Wednesday, Mr Sharif said that the government was creating new issues to cover up the issue of corruption.

The government, he said, was duty-bound to take effective steps to bring down prices of commodities of daily use and end unemployment in the country.

Referring to the deteriorating law and order situation, cases of missing people, target killings in Balochistan, and unending loadshedding, he said these were gifts of Gen Musharraf who had violated all rules with impunity.

He said that incidents of terrorism taking place across the country were the result of wrong polices of the military dictator who ignored parliament and took unilateral decisions.

He said that after the approval of the 18th Amendment by parliament, the responsibility of the prime minister had increased and he should now take bold steps for people's welfare and for overcoming the crisis.

About recent contacts between PPP and PML-Q leaders, he said such meetings made no difference to his party. But, he said, morality should not be sacrificed for the sake of politics.

Morality and ethics come first, and then comes politics, he said. He said what was morally wrong could not be politically right.

Mr Sharif praised the Punjab government for good governance and said it was trying to further improve its performance and help the masses.

But, he said, that despite its good performance the Punjab government could not protect itself from the adverse effects of the 'wrong policies' of the federal government.

He said that it was unfortunate that money given by others for the welfare of the people of Pakistan was being embezzled and going into pockets of irrelevant people. With such things happening “no country of the world will support us in future”, he added.

He urged the government to implement the Supreme Court judgment on the National Reconciliation Ordinance and avoid confrontation with the judiciary.

“We are not in favour of a clash among sate institutions,” he said, adding that the government should not force people to come to the road.

“The nation is anxiously waiting for reforms in the system, especially for eliminating the menace of corruption, for recovery of the plundered wealth, restoration of peace and creation of job opportunities,” he said.

Mr Sharif said that his party opposed drone attacks. He also asked the government to take steps to end target killings in Karachi and protect innocent people.
