The Inspector-General (IG) of Sindh Police Mushtaq Shah on Thursday said that the operation against criminal elements in the neighbourhood would be completed within one to two days, DawnNews reported.

He said that police had managed to set up check posts in Lyari’s Afshani Gali, while they had also been able to enter the hostile Sangu Lane area – areas which previously had almost no police presence.

Reiterating the possibility of Taliban militants in Lyari, the IG Sindh assured that the operation would be completed in “a day or two”.

Furthermore, Shah informed reporters that five police personnel had lost their lives in the operation while an additional ten had been wounded during the past seven days. – Photos by White Star

KARACHI: At least 14 people were killed on Friday in firing incidents in different parts of Karachi, DawnNews reported.

Unidentified gunmen on a motorbike shot three people at Qadhafi Chowk in the Orangi Town area. The shooters managed to escape from the crime scene.

In another part of Orangi Town, bullet riddled dead bodies of two kidnapped men were found. The bodies bore torture marks, DawnNews learnt. Two other people were shot dead in Orangi.

Separately, a rickshaw driver was killed in a firing related incident at Teen Hatti.

Moreover, two people were shot dead in the areas of Malir and New Sabzi-mandi at Super Highway.

Two people were shot dead in Mominabad and one  in Aligarh colony.

Furthermore, a man wounded in a shooting incident in Clifton on Thursday succumbed to his injuries.

Home Minister takes notice

Home Minister Sindh Manzoor Wasan took notice of the deteriorating law and order situation and ordered the law enforcement agencies to establish peace in the metropolis.

Wasan ordered Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Karachi West to produce an investigative report on the killings in Orangi Town.

Speaking to DawnNews, Wasan said he had directed Inspector General (IG) Sindh to issue orders to the city’s Station House Officers (SHOs) to patrol their respective areas and search suspected individuals.

KARACHI: The series of target killings and bloodshed continued in Karachi as six people including a policeman were killed in the port city, DawnNews reported.

Sindh home minister sought a report on the Gulistan-e-Jauhar incident, where a government officer was burnt alive.

One person was killed by firing in Korangi, Sector 51-C.

Policeman Taj Mohammad died as a result of firing near Lyari football ground.

Whereas, a political party worker identified as Syed Mukhtar Jan was shot dead by unknown men in Saeedabad.

Political activist Younus lost his life where as another was injured in Metroville, within the remits of Mubina Town Police station, when their car came under attack by unknown gunmen.

Firing claimed the life of 14-year-old Shariq in Manghopir, where as four people were injured in firing incidents nearHassan Squarewhere as one person each was injured in Lee market and Kharadar area.

Jamshed Quarters police found the remains of a dead body in a shopping bag lying at a garbage dump at Jehangir road No 1.

A deputy director of a government organisation, Abdul Hayee was burnt to death by brutal assailants in Gulistan-e-Jauhar block 16 area ofKarachi.

Sindh Interior Minister Manzoor Wassan took notice of the incident and sought a report from the IG of Sindh police.

KARACHI: Mohajir Qaumi Movement – Haqiqi (MQM-H) chief Afaq Ahmed on Thursday filed a petition in the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry on regarding contempt of court, DawnNews reported.

The petition makes the federal interior secretary, Sindh’s chief secretary, Sindh’s additional chief secretary and IG Sindh party to it.

In his petition, Ahmed claimed that an inaccurate picture was shown to the Supreme Court regarding Karachi’s law and order situation and on the existence of no-go areas in the city.

Moreover, Ahmed stated in the petition that instead of handling matters by himself, he would seek the help of the Supreme Court.

He further stated that his house had been transformed into a sub-jail and that those who would come to visit him were being “tortured”.

KHAIRPUR, Dec 4: Sindh IG Mushtaq Shah has said that Khairpur and Rohri are the most sensitive spots in upper Sindh during Muharram.

Addressing a meeting of police officials at SSP Office and talking to reporters, he said foolproof security arrangements had been made.

Police force was at alert and Rangers had also been deployed in different cities, he said, adding that terrorists’ arrest in Karachi was the result of strict security measures.

He said that he would visit sensitive spots in upper Sindh to get feedback from police officials. Answering a question, he said Khairpur was one of the largest districts of upper Sindh but it did not have sufficient number of Ranger personnel. However, he said efforts will be made to increase their number in future.

To another question, he said that there was no political or feudal pressure on police in connection with the investigation into triple murder of Nov 7 in Chak village of Shikarpur district. He said that he was unaware that some Hindu families wanted to shift from Chak after that incident.

The IG vowed that the main accused in the triple murder case would be arrested.

ISLAMABAD: A five member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, on Friday directed the government to transfer both DG Rangers and IG Sindh over the killing of Sarfaraz Shah by Rangers personnel on Friday, DawnNews reported.

Chief Justice Iftikhar, after hearing a suo motu notice over Shah’s killing, directed the government to remove from their posts DG Rangers and Sindh inspector general of police Fayyaz Leghari.

It was in Karachi, in the southern province, where Shah was killed on Wednesday.

The court warned that if the two officials were not transferred within the next three days, their salaries will be stopped.

“Their salaries will be stopped and official benefits also withdrawn,” a court official quoted Chief Justice Iftikhar as saying.

If the government did not do so within three days, “the court itself will take action against them”, he added.

Chief Justice Iftikhar had ordered the attorney general and other senior government officials to appear in court on Friday.

“Two days have passed, people have not slept out of grief and shock and you did nothing,” the court official quoted the judge as telling them.

Chief Justice Iftikhar appointed top police official Sultan Khawaja to investigate the matter and submit his report to the court in seven days.

In a letter, the court registrar described the shooting “in cold blood” as “tantamount to extrajudicial killing by the law enforcing agency” and a “brazen violation of most essential fundamental right”.

The court also directed Secretary Interior to present a report on the incident.

Chief Justice Iftikhar also directed Karachi police and Rangers to determine if there was any criminal record against Shah.
