On the following pages are the detailed profiles of all 110 districts and 272 National Assembly seats. In order to make the profiles as comprehensive as possible, the Herald has included the map of each constituency, its ranking as determined by the Applied Economic Research Centre (AERC), vital statistics such as literacy, housing, employment and access to facilities such as water and electricity, along with the results of previous elections.

Understanding the socio-economic and geographical make-up of a constituency is fundamental to understanding why it decides to send a particular candidate and party to the National Assembly. For some places we have not been able to provide this data, or part of it, such as for district Nankana Sahib in Punjab, Matiari in Sindh and Washuk in Balochistan. The reason for these omissions is that these districts have been recently carved out, either for administrative purposes or political expediency, and their statistics have not been accumulated as yet.

The data has been culled from multiple sources. District rankings have been taken from the AERC, information regarding population, literacy, housing, utilities and employment from the 1998 Census, details about clans from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, while the statistics on gender balance and voter turnout have been gathered from the Election Commission website.
