ISLAMABAD, Aug 24: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and his Bosnian counterpart Sulejman Tihic on Tuesday agreed to enhance trade and economic cooperation through increased investments and joint ventures.
The two leaders told newsmen after formal talks that they had discussed regional and global issues including the war on terror, Pakistan-India relations and the restructuring of the Organization of Islamic Conference.
President Musharraf said: "We discussed the requirement of contributing towards global peace and ridding our own countries and the world in general from terrorism." The president described discussion with his Bosnian counterpart as fruitful, saying they shared the desire and conviction to boost bilateral ties in political, economic and cultural fields.
He expressed the confidence that President Tihic's visit and discussions would help give new depth and direction to political and economic ties between the two countries. "We discussed exploring opportunities for investments and joint ventures and decided to identify areas of mutual cooperation."
The two sides also decided to look into cooperation in the field of military training. President Musharraf said he apprised the Bosnian leader of the situation in South Asia, in particular the Pakistan-India relations. "I underlined my commitment for a result-oriented composite dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir."
The president informed the visiting leader of the need to revitalize the OIC and the impact of the implementation of the concept of 'enlightened moderation' would have on the war against international terrorism.
AGREEMENTS: Pakistan and Bosnia signed agreements on holding regular consultations between their ministries of foreign affairs and avoidance of double taxation for increased economic and trade cooperation.
President Musharraf and President Tihic oversaw the signing of the agreements at the Aiwan-i-Sadr. Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri and his Bosnian counterpart Mladen Ivanic signed the agreements. -APP
