LAHORE, April 18 Three residents of a slum along Multan Road were injured on Saturday when boundary walls of their houses collapsed owing to accumulation of sewerage water there following disconnection of power supply to a nearby disposal station.

Rescue 1122 officials reached Ali Park at around noon when two to three feet sewage water had inundated a dozen or so houses of the locality, situated between Murgzaar and Sabzazaar housing colonies.

A Wasa official said that the LesCo staff disconnected the power supply to the Multan Road disposal station at 9am on the pretext of non-payment of dues. Within an hour or so, the tank of the disposal station was filled to its capacity because of flow of the Iqbal Town drain.

After an hour or so, the sewage water started making its way to the nearby Ali Park that is 10 to 12 feet deep from the road level.

Wasa managing director Dr Javed Iqbal contacted LesCo authorities after reaching the spot and managed to restore power supply to the disposal station around 6.30pm.

In the meanwhile, he supervised the Wasa staff operation to pump out sewage water from the slum locality with the help of sucker lorries. By 7pm all the sewage water was pumped out of the area.

Residents of the area said that Wasa had no infrastructure in their locality that became a pond whenever it rained. The injured were discharged from hospital late in the evening. — Staff Reporter
