KOHAT, April 26 A pro-government group of militants issued a decree on Sunday terming all activities of Darra Taliban, led by Tariq Afridi, un-Islamic.
Through leaflets distributed here on Sunday, the chief of the pro-government group of militants, Abdul Momin Afridi, asked the followers of Darra Taliban to contact neutral religious scholars for advice to confirm that suicide blasts and kidnappings for ransom did not come within the ambit of jihad and were serious crimes according to Sharia. He added that he had contacted many clerics who issued a decree saying, “anyone belonging to Tehrik-i-Taliban Darra Adamkhel who dies while fighting under the command of Tariq Afridi against Abdul Momin group cannot be called a martyr and will go to hell.”
He said that he had received confirmed reports that many of Tariq`s followers had left his group due to what he called his un-Islamic and criminal activities.
“Because many of his companions had joined his group to sacrifice their lives in the way of Islam now came to know that jihad could be only for God and not for any amir of religious group or individual,” he added.
He alleged that many of the companions of Tariq who wanted to leave his group were warned of dire consequences and even if they showed reluctance to work for him he killed them, which was against the spirit of jihad.
He said that those willing to leave Tariq group would be welcomed by him to save them from the wrath of God.
Meanwhile, spokesman for Abdul Momin Afridi group Hidayatullah called journalists by telephone from an unknown location and brushed aside reports that they were raising a tribal lashkar to fight against Tariq group. He warned that if the government agencies or any individual tried to take benefit from their differences they would be dealt with an iron hand.
