LAHORE, Aug 5 Stalwarts like drag-flicker Sohail Abbas were back among the probables while another seasoned campaigner halfback Mohammad Saqlain was dropped from the 31 players named on Wednesday for the month-long conditioning camp for the hockey World Cup qualifiers.

The first phase of the camp will be held from August 10 to September 10 at National Hockey Stadium, Lahore, while the second leg of the training camp is to commence after Eid with the venue to be determined later.

Penalty-corner drag-flicker Sohail Abbas, halfback Waseem Ahmed and experienced forward Rehan Butt were included in the list of probables for the World Cup qualifiers to be played later this year.

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) had opted to rest the seasoned players for the three-match away hockey series against England last month.

According to the PHF spokesman Shahzad Malik “PHF will be giving a great send off to Mohammad Saqlain who has contributed a lot to hockey here and has fine coaching abilities which the federation wants to put to use by utilising him in the coaching side.”
