GUJRANWALA, Aug 31 Reshuffle of officials of the district administration following a surprise visit of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to Ramazan bazaars here a couple of days ago is going on and city DDO (R) Khwaja Sohail was transferred and his services handed over to the federal government on Monday.

The chief minister had already transferred commissioner Khalid Masood Chaudhry, DCO Dr Ejaz Munir and suspended Nandipur TO (regulations) Malik Khudadad from service over negligence and inefficiency in ensuring smooth supply of commodities at Ramazan bazaars.

The Punjab government appointed Hasham Tareen as commissioner who has assumed the charge of his posting while the posts of DCO and DDO(R) are still lying vacant. The new commissioner is making efforts to improve the Ramazan bazaars system.

Former DCO Dr Pervaiz Ahmad and former EDO (R) Malik Nasir Iqbal were also transferred on political basis a few months ago and officials of the district administration are in panic owing to such transfers.

TRANSFER A jail superintendent is reluctant to assume a lower grade post following his transfer and wants to move the interior ministry in this connection, Dawn learned here on Monday.

Malik Kamran Anjum, a BS-18 officer and Central Jail superintendent, was transferred to Gujrat District Jail against a BS-17 post vice incumbent BS-17 officer, Malik Ziaud Din, who has been posted Gujranwala Central Jail superintendent against a BS-18 post.

The latter officer assumed the charge of his posting instantly but the former was reluctant to assume the charge of his new posting and wanted moving the interior ministry for a review of his transfer orders. It is learnt that a heavyweight politician was behind the transfer of these jail officers.
