ALL major cities of country like Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Gujranwala have ring roads or bypass system. Unfortunately Rawalpindi does not have so.
Rawalpindi is also a major city and is growing day by day in all directions, especially in southeast side where there is no proper big road like Peshawar Road or Murree Road. Its traffic has become very congested because its old roads are narrow and are ill maintained.
All the traffic coming from the NWFP and going towards central Punjab and vice versa have to pass through the city, especially the cantonment area, which causes a great inconvenience for local traffic and is also a great security concern.
Although a ring road was announced previously, nothing has come of it.
It is the joint responsibilities of the federal and the provincial government to construct a ring road from Rawat to Tarnol as Rawalpindi is also sharing the load of population of the federal capital.
