LAHORE, Dec 8 Various film writers, directors and producers will make formal announcement for the launch of United Film Association of Pakistan on Jan 1, sources in entertainment circles told Dawn.

Sources said the previous date for the launch was Dec 15, but it had to be changed because a number of Karachi-based film artistes had to participate in the launch. These artistes could not attend the launching ceremony as they had a tight shooting schedule for various private productions.

Representatives of various film associations have unanimously taken the decision that the launch and the press conference will be held next month.

Writer and producer Pervaiz Kaleem, who is also one of the founding members of the association with the likes of film director Aslam Dar, Altaf Husain, Syed Noor and Sangeeta, said the association was being launched for the revival of cinema and to streamline various affairs of the film industry.

He said the association had framed its constitution and developed a code of conduct for a better working atmosphere and interaction among various segments of film. He said under the association, new talent would be introduced in every sector of the film industry such as musicians, cameramen, directors, story and script writers.
