FAISALABAD, March 25 The judicial work, which came to a halt in courts throughout the district after the slapping of a civil judge by a lawyer here on Monday, remained suspended on Thursday.

While the judges want to see the lawyer behind the bars, the DBA members have threatened to continue boycott until the Lahore High Court withdrew contempt of court notice and non-bailable arrest warrants for advocate Tariq Javed. The bar adopted a resolution in this regard at its general house meeting presided over by president.

The bar cancelled its executive committee meeting scheduled to be held on Thursday at 9am when it learnt that the LHC had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Tariq Javed. The LHC had summoned Mr Javed for contempt of court proceedings against him on Thursday, but he did not appear. The LHC issued notice to the lawyer on a reference sent by D&SJ Sohail Nasir.

The bar general house meeting witnessed a heated debate. PBC member Tanvir Randhawa said lawyers who had rendered sacrifices for the supremacy of the judiciary were being intimidated.

Another PBC member Javed Awan said a delegation of lawyers had met the LHC chief justice to resolve the case. He claimed the CJ had assured the delegates that the lawyer would not be handcuffed.

When speeches in favour of the accused lawyer were on, a group of lawyers led by Shehzad Waseer and Maskeen Ali started raising slogans in favour of the judges and against the lawyer. The situation angered some other lawyers who exchanged hot words with them. The bar president had to intervene to restore the order.

Addressing the meeting, the accused lawyer claimed that the judge had also tried to hit him with a paperweight.
