Let us watch football

Published July 1, 2010

Our national team may not excel in the world's most popular sport, football, but there is no denying that the passion for the game is intense and widespread in the country. Football fans in the country should not be deprived of the chance to witness the ongoing FIFA World Cup, which is regarded as not only the biggest football event but, in fact, the world's biggest sporting event.

Governments all over the world have taken measures to ensure that their citizens become a part of the euphoria created by this major event. However, all our government has done is deprive its people of arguably the most ultimate football action. And that too because of the frustrating power outages exactly while the matches are being aired live.

On behalf of all football fans of Pakistan, I request our government to take suitable action, and ask the WAPDA to ensure electricity supply during match timings. Our country already lags behind when it comes to football. Not letting people watch this grand event, especially as it heads into its more exciting stages, would not really help.
