Chakwal by-poll challenged

Published July 21, 2010

RAWALPINDI, July 20 Former Punjab chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Illahi has challenged an Election Commission notification about the holding of by-election in NA-61 (Chakwal-II) on August 25.

In his petition filed in the Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court, the Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader said that after the resignation of Faiz Tamman, a PML-N legislator, he should be declared a returned candidate.

Chaudhry Pervaiz maintained that his election petition challenging the Feb 2008 election results of the constituency was still pending before the LHC's election tribunal and it should be decided first.
