KARACHI, Nov 7: It was time for redemption for Habib Bank on Sunday as they avenged crushing loss in last season's Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship final by thrashing Karachi Blues by nine wickets. In a match reduced to three days after Saturday's enforced rest day because of political reasons, Habib Bank made up for the lost time in the Division One clash at the Southend Club Cricket Stadium with Aslam Qureshi making major impact with a match bag of 11 wickets for 78 in 39.5 overs.The slow left-armer from Peshawar, who took 5-30 in the first innings, grabbed six for 48 as the reigning champions were shot out for 144 in the second innings with only Babar Rehman offering some fight with a knock of 41. Former Test paceman Shahid Nazir claimed 3-30.
Habib Bank, who were earlier dismissed for 311 after resuming from Friday's score of 299-7, knocked off the required 24 runs in 7.1 overs.
The remaining three Division One games were all drawn with Rawalpindi, ZTBL and Sialkot earning three points apiece for taking first-innings lead against PIA, Faisalabad and SNGPL, respectively.
Meanwhile, PTV gained three points after taking a lead of 38 runs on the first innings against Karachi Whites here at the National Stadium. Having resumed from Friday's score of 292-6, PTV were all out for 345 in reply to the Whites' 307. Off-spinner Atif Maqbool finished with 5-99.
Batting a second time, Karachi Whites reached 192-5 on the last day of the truncated fixture.
Lahore Shalimar whipped Quetta by an innings and 20 runs after dismissing the visitors for 210 in the second innings of their match at the LCCA Ground in Lahore. Leg-spinner Saad Nasim captured match haul of nine for 110.
At the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore Ravi were humiliated by Abbottabad who romped to an innings and 106 runs victory. Slow left-armer Khalid Usman took 4-33 and pacemen Ahmed Jamal and Mohammad Naeem three wickets each as the hosts slumped to 149 all out after resuming their second innings at 55-2.
State Bank of Pakistan settled for a draw after obtaining a first-innings lead of 59 runs over hosts Hyderabad at the Niaz Stadium. Kashif Pervez shone with six for 87 as the bankers added 108 to their overnight tally of 277-5. sport
