They are both prominent individuals in their own right: singer/songwriter Hamza Jafri is the founding member of the cult Pakistani rock outfit Co-VEN and has also established a music and creative arts school in Lahore called The Guitar School. Nida Butt is one of the most well-known names in the theatre scene in Pakistan. Her company, Made for Stage is single-handedly responsible for putting out productions of Chicago and Mamma Mia that have ran successfully in both Karachi and Lahore. The Guitar School and Made for Stage recently collaborated on hosting a MAD (Music, Acting and Dance) camp at Made for Stage headquarters in Karachi, Zam One, at Zamzama, that has had its first successful run as well.
Hamza and Nida recently got engaged in a small and intimate ceremony in Karachi. According to an industry insider, it happened quite suddenly catching many by surprise, but that the news in itself was ‘great’. With two powerhouse creative individuals getting together, one can only imagine what the future holds for Pakistan’s music and theatre scene.
