KARACHI: Pakistan's last hope Imran Shahzad, who secured a place in the pre-quarters of the IBSF World Snooker Championship, also bowed out of the prestigious event, losing to Alex Borg of Malta on Monday in Damascus, Syria. Alex Borg recorded a formidable 5-1 win over the last Pakistani flag bearer in the tournament.

CENTURY BREAKS

Earlier, Pakistan's top ranked cueist Shahzad sailed into the last 16 round after a commanding 5-1 victory over Andreas Ploner of Australia with back to back century breaks.

The 30-year-old Lahore-born Shahzad carved out two superb break of 102 in the first and 112 in third and 69 in the sixth frame to register a 102-0, 41-64, 112-32, 113-11, 72-27, 104-21 triumph.

Dechawat Poomjaeng of Thailand halted another Pakistani Muhammad Sajjad's fine run in the competition with a 5-0 in the last 32 round.

Pakistan number two Sohail Shahzad lost to Noppadol Sangnil of Thailand 5-3.

Earlier, in last-64 round Sohail Shahzad had beaten Anas Al-Marzouki of Syria 4-1.
