Everyone in Karachi has a soft spot for Saddar – be it the electronics (or paper, bottle, Zainab, Lea or Empress) market, Burns Road or M. A Jinnah Road – Saddar gives Karachi personality. Swimming in a sea of contradictions from its burqa stalls to sexologist clinics – there is something in Saddar for the individual and conformist in us.
Unrest during the Second World War made many Chinese flee their homeland and settle in Pakistan – mostly in Karachi. To earn a living they started working as beauticians, shoemakers, chefs and dentists.
Dawn.com takes a look at the variety of Chinese dentists, sexologists and health practitioners operating in Saddar. – Photos and text by Tooba Masood for Dawn.com

The Building looks similar to buildings in Bhindi Bazar in Bombay and has almost the same types of shops and facade

This pics me remind me of those days when i was working in an office, located in Saddar town. Its true, saddar is the market where almost every person from all over the karachi comes to shop as there are a number of item/commodities available out there.

This is interesting that Dawn has been looking into. yet another reason why I love Dawn! I had been to one of these cheap dentists, right in the Saddar area back in 2002.. had installed a bridge on my tooth,,,,the tooth worked fine then ,but now when I did the check up in the U.S. the dentists have been saying that I should remove it immediately because it is so bad quality that it is blocking the other tooth from getting cleaned hence causing infection. Installation of the bridge then cost me $20, but the removal and fixing it in the U.S is going to cost me around $7000.
