ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari said the strategic partnership between Pakistan and the United States should not be compromised by predicating it on any single issue.

Senator John Kerry, Chairman of US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called on Zardari here at the Presidency on Wednesday.

Zardari said “The Davis issue was not as simple as it was sometimes being portrayed”, according to a statement from presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar.

“The president termed it is a complex issue with several dimensions and said all of these had to be taken into account for an amicable resolution,” Babar said.

Zardari also said “The matter was before the court which has also fixed a date for hearing. Pakistan expects that its judicial processes will be respected.”

KERRY-NAWAZ MEETING Senator Kerry also held a meeting with the PML-N chief and former premier Nawaz Sharif at the Punjab House.

According to US counsel-general in Lahore, Carmela Conroy, the meeting was positive.

Sharif told reporters that during his meeting with Kerry he reiterated his stance that the courts should decide the matter.
