KARACHI: After taking a flying start in the Snooker World Cup against Ireland, Pakistan went down 2-3 to Germany in their second group ‘A’ match at Bangkok Convention Centre on Tuesday.

The Pakistan team, which comprises national champion Shahid Aftab and former Asian No 2, Mohammad Sajjad, had shocked eighth seed Republic of Ireland 3-2 in the opener.

In the clash against Germany, Pakistan went into a 0-2 deficit after Shahid and Sajjad lost their opening singles to Patrick Einsle and Lasse Munstermann respectively.

However, the Pakistani pair bounced back to reduce the lead by getting the better of German duo.

Pakistan trailed 1-3 after Shahid lost the second singles to Lasse Munstermann but Sajjad kept his cool to beat Patrick Einsle in the last frame but it was not enough and Pakistan finished 2-3.

Results: Group A: Pakistan lost to Germany 2-3.

Singles: Shahid Aftab lost to Patrick Einsle; Mohammad Sajjad lost to Lasse Munstermann.

Doubles: Shahid Aftab and Mohammad Sajjad bt Patrick Einsle and Lasse Munstermann.
