SWABI, April 20: District police officer Abdul Rashid said on Friday that they had traced identity of the accused involved in Thursday’s grenade attack on special police personnel at Karnal Sher Kallay in which three policemen were injured.
Talking to media persons, he said that soon after the incident they launched an operation in the area to trace the accused. “We have exchanged fire with them, but due to darkness they escaped,” he said.
The DPO said that that the accused would be arrested soon as they had been identified. “We are still searching for them and I hope they will be arrested soon,” he said.
Answering a question, Mr Rashid said they would share information with the media after completing the operation. He said that the injured policemen were out of danger and recovering.
An FIR has been registered with Kalu Khan police station, but police would not disclose names of the nominated accused.
It has been learnt that police had arrested two people from Karnal Sher Kallay and Kalu Khan area and both were shifted to an undisclosed location.
“Yes, we have arrested two people, but we could not disclose their names. We are still searching for the main characters of the grenade attack,” said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, a policeman, Shah Hussain, was injured in Chota Lahor judicial area when the gun of his colleague Ikhtiar Bahadar went off accidentally while they were on duty here on Friday, said a police official. He said that Mr Shah was taken to Bacha Khan Medical Complex at Shahmansoor.
ENGINEERING MOOT: Several foreign delegates arrived here on Friday for the three-day International Mechanical Engineering Convention in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology.
The organisers said that the conference, starting from Saturday (today), has been organised by American Society for Mechanical Engineering (ASME), GIK Institute. They said that delegates from Turkey, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh had arrived, while the Indian delegates were expected to reach on Saturday (today).
They said that the conference would facilitate the participants to learn from each other’s experience while exploring new developments.
