ISLAMABAD, April 25: Aggrieved by the Supreme Court’s judgment on Rental Power Projects (RPPs), the federal government moved a petition on Wednesday seeking review of the March 30 verdict which held the RPP contracts non-transparent and ordered their rescission.

The verdict requires National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari to proceed with corruption references against those who were at the helm of affairs between 2006 and 2008 when the contracts were signed to overcome the energy shortfall through RPPs as a stopgap arrangement.

Filed by the federal government through the Water and Power Ministry and the Private Power and Infrastructure Board, the petition urged the court to reconsider and withdraw the findings made in the verdict that there was no transparency in holding the international competitive bidding by the PPIB and Pepco.

While arriving to this conclusion, the petition filed through Advocate Khawaja Tariq Rahim pleaded, the apex court had failed to consider material facts placed before it on record and as such there was an error on the face of record.—Staff Reporter
