SWABI, May 20: The Awami National Party-led provincial government has decided to build a medical college in the name of late Khan Abdul Wali Khan near Bacha Khan Hospital Complex at Shahmansoor in Swabi district.

In this connection, Senator Azam Hoti, provincial ministers Zar Shaid Khan and Sitara Ayaz, MPAs Sikandar Irfan and Yasmeen Jasim, party’s district president Rehmanullah, general secretary Tamraiz Khan and Dr Mohammad Ishfaq visited the site of the proposed college here on Sunday. They also discussed different aspects of the project.

Residents said this would be the first mega project for Swabi by the ANP-led government, which would help the party in maintaining its vote bank in the district.

Briefing media persons, Mr Tamraiz said that the provincial government owned a piece of 100 kanals near Shahmansoor hospital, which would be given for the medical college. “The government will complete transfer of land to the college within a week,” he said.

POLICE INEFFICIENCY: Local leaders and workers of political parties, including Awami National Party, on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against the increasing robbery incidents in congested Tordher area of Chota Lahor tehsil and failure of district police to arrest the culprits.

The protest was held just a day after of the paramedical association demanded of the police to recover valuables snatched from their colleagues at gunpoint. The political activists and people gathered at Tordher bus stop where local ANP, PTI and PPP-S leaders addressed them. PTI divisional general secretary Abdul Rashid and PPP-S Chota Lahor convener Mohammad Karim and ANP Chota Lahor general secretary Rais Khan led the protesters, who also blocked the Swabi-Jahangira road for sometime.

The speakers said that a few days ago unidentified dacoits looted the houses of a retired school teacher, Mohammad Amin, and Wali Shah Bacha, but police failed to recover the looted cash and valuables.

They said that local police were not doing their duty and that was why looters were roaming freely in the area. The protesters said that they had been facing threat to their life and honour due to inefficiency of police.

They threatened to block Swabi-Jahangira road if the police failed to arrest the gang of dacoits active in the area within three days.
