President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday directed the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) workers to start the preparations for the upcoming general elections, DawnNews reported.

The president promised that the next general elections will be fair, free and impartial and these will be held on time.

Addressing his party workers at the residence of PPP leader Manzoor Wasaan, in DG, Kot area, President Zardari claimed that that the PPP would get success in the next general elections with a heavy majority.

The President said the PPP believed in democratic system and never used back-doors to come into power, therefore, it would depend on power of the masses. Adding that, PPP never believed in rigging the elections and assured that all efforts would be made ensure fair and free elections without any element of rigging.

The PPP co-chairman reassured that the elections would take place in time and thee PPP’s reconciliatory politics would continue.

Referring to the criticism of the people on the present government, the President said, “There has been conspiracies against our government but we have faced them with dedication and the support of the masses.”

The President said, the present government is being targeted through “TV politics” and some elements just criticise the government without any justification in the talks shows at the TV channels.

Moreover, he  said that the opponents of the party have panicked after seeing PPP's popularity.

Asif Zardari said, “We are satisfied with our performance and getting the support from the masses.”

He said despite international economic crisis and effects of economic meltdown, the economy of Pakistan made progress during the tenure of the PPP government.

President Zardari said, “The country is now self-sufficient in food and exporting wheat as it was importing wheat when the PPP came into power four and half years ago.”

The President said he knew that the people are facing problems like shortage of water, electricity and jobs but assured that the government has taken a number of steps which would resolve these problems in near future.

He praised the party workers for their sacrifices for the party.
