ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will not be heading the bench hearing the petitions seeking prosecution of former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf for treason, DawnNews reported.
Initially a three member bench was to hear the petitions, however now that the CJP has withdrawn himself, a two member bench led by Justice Jawad Khawaja would carry on with the proceedings.
On Friday, another petition was filed in the Supreme Court of Pakistan to prosecute Musharraf under sections 2 and 3 of the High Treason (Punishment) Act 1973.
Earlier, President LHCBA, Rawalpindi Bench, Taufiq Asif, and Maulvi Iqbal Haider filed the petitions under Article 184(3) of the Constitution.
