MULTAN: The Lahore High Court Multan bench has overturned the conviction of Former National Assembly member Jamshed Dasti on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.
Jamshed Dasti was convicted by a district and sessions judge last week for having a fake degree.
He was sentenced to three years in prison along with a fine of Rs 5,000. Jamshed Dasti was also disqualified to contest the upcoming polls.
He had filed an appeal in Multan High Court against his conviction.
It is unclear whether he will contest the upcoming elections as the election tribunal is yet to decide on his appeal.
The court ordered for his acquittal suspending his sentence.

If judges will start giving this kind of judgement then system will not function. How much money Dasti had to pay to get judgement in his favour......What a country...........

If anyone wants to buy the judiciary... go to Punjab, all is possible. What is the point of a court of law convicting someone and then another court of law at the same level overturn. LHC should also clearly give a summary of their decision to the Press to show the grounds of overturning the decision.
There is lots of videos and mms clips of Mr Dasti and the likes of him on the social media - hopefully, the voters will not be fooled.

fine, so the high court is basically saying that submitting fake degrees and lying to the nation is not a crime punishable by law, and it is allowing conmen like Dasti to become lawmakers again. What is going on in our courts?? What kind of justice system is it where there is so much disparity amongst the courts?? Isn't it criminal to take oath of office based on fake documents?? Dasti and all others like him are criminals and must be punished whether there is a jail term or not, but they must at least be disqualified for life.

Why? How can one court find this man to be a criminal and the other an innocent? Based on what evidence? This news article does not give any clue or details!

This just goes to show how corrupt & incompetent our judicial system is. The courts dare not mess with the big ones, the affluent & the corrupt for fear of repraisal.

Hmm,
Does that mean the lower court was incompetent and did not know what it was doing?
Would have been better if the article stated how and why the court arrived at its decision, because does this mean all others convicted will follow the same route and we will be back to square one.

Now he has been converted from felon to a law abiding citizen?
Shame on him ,if he still contests the election, he must be defeated.

I know the answer to your question Mr Adnan, this is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, anything goes here. The crooks flourish, corrupt politicians become presidents and ministers, conmen become chief executives of industries, robbers become custodians and the law abiding honest people are either killed or locked up in jails. Long live Pakistan.

khan sahib, the courts and the laws that they apply are not a joke. I have not looked at the detailed judgement to find out the exact reasoning behind overturning the sentence, but as I understand the law, 3 years imprisonment was awarded to him using the judicial discretion. And I think that the high court has found that the discretion was not used in accordance with law, that is way his sentence has been overturned. Secondly, the sentence has been overturned not the conviction. I think the reporter got it wrong

At what basis his or anyone conviction can be overturn when surely these guys lied to nation, when they lied under oath. They lied to get seat and they have no conviction.
I think they spent 5 years in assembly they should be jailed for 10 years and payback all the money with fine that they earned or used. But they coming out clear and now they will show the victory sign.
What message are we conveying . I had enough with this country.
