KARACHI, Feb 6 Country's top player Aqeel Khan lived up to his billing when he claimed men's singles title to earn a possible double crown in the second Sindh Open ranking tennis tournament at the Beach View Club on Friday.
He exercised his vast experience to triumph 6-3, 6-4 over promising Yasir Khan in the all-brothers final.
Earlier, he had won the men's doubles title with his protégé Abdul Rehman when they got the better of Vinod Das and Robin Das 6-3, 6-1 the other day.
Aqeel received a purse of Rs10,000 and winners trophy while Yasir took home Rs5,000 and runner up trophy. The total prize money was, however, enhanced from Rs26,000 to Rs31,000.
In what turned out to be sheer disappointment for fans, Islamabad's Sara Mansoor was declared ladies singles champion following a walkover given by her opponent Nida Waseem on the pretext of injury in right hand.
Sara fetched Rs4,000 while Nida was presented with Rs2,000.
Talented Syed Zuhair Raza and Nameer Shamsi landed the juniors U-17 and boys U-15 titles respectively in contrasting styles.
The juniors' final was a repeat of a similar event held last month as Zuhair was stretched to limits by Omer Shahid on way to winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. The latter is catching up fast and had also extended Zuhair in the first event of the year.
Nameer also picked up his second boys U-15 singles title of the year beating Farhan Mustafa 6-3, 6-1.
