ISLAMABAD, May 6: People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) president Makhdoom Amin Fahim has asked Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali to allow the return of two exiled leaders Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif and include them in the consultative process regarding Pakistan-India relations.

The demand was made by the PPP president at the meeting, called by Mr Jamali at the Prime Minister’s House on Monday night in an effort to evolve a consensus among major political parties regarding the ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan.

PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar, in a statement on Tuesday, said that the official press statement issued after the talks of political parties with the prime minister did not portray the whole picture and was “liable to be misread”.

“It is, therefore, important that the position taken by Mr Fahim at the meeting is also made public,” the PPP statement said.

It said that Mr Fahim had made it clear that his party believed in peace with honour in the region and that the issues between the two countries be resolved through peaceful means, for which the PPP would support the efforts of Mr Jamali.

Unity and consensus among the political parties were imperative for achieving the goal of peace with honour, the statement added.
