Ambassador to US, Sherry Rehman resigns

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Sherry Reham, has resigned from her post on Tuesday, DawnNews reported.
Sherry Rehman sent her resignation to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mir Hazar Khan Khoso.
Serving Pakistan Peoples Party for a long time, Rehman was elected to the National Assembly in 2002 on a reserved seat for women. She again returned in 2008 as MNA on women’s reserved seats. As PPP and its allies formed a government at the centre, Rehman was appointed federal minister for information and broadcasting the same year. However, she resigned from the position in 2009.
Rehman was eventually appointed Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States after her predecessor Husain Haqqani resigned over the memo scandal. This year, she was awarded with Nishan-i-Imtiaz, the highest honour given to any civilian, for her performance as ambassador at a time when US-Pakistan relations were passing through a very difficult phase.

I think sherry has been great ambassador and she should have been retained until a better person can take her position. She has been the best ambassador after Maleeha Lodhi.

She did well as information minister but was not comfortable in America. Sherry did not show high handedness to the media to the displeasure of Zardari. Gilani managed to get her out of sight by posting her as ambassador to the United States.Well done Sherry!

In any civilized, or uncivilized society, where one has the coveted post of a nation's ambassador, there is deep responsibility to act like an ambassador with a show of professionalism no matter the circumstance, even a planned and fair change in governments. You are replaced in time with a due democratic process when it is set. Its simply not ambassadorial to act like a sore loser and quit.

Bravo, Sherry Rehman .. that's the spirit of a true democrat, a genuine person .. if you feel you may be ineffective in doing your job or have failed in conduct of duties, you walk away.
This is the path that if all of our ministers, politicians and bureaucrats follow, Pakistan will prosper as a democratic, civilized nation and country.

The first casualty of Change in the Ambassador's; ranks. Sherry has served as Ambassador of Pakistan in a capable manner. She was well received in USA. She collaborated on number of initiatives in the education field with the USA aid program.
She was decorated with the highest Civilian Award for her services. We would like to wish her good luck on her future endeavors.

Sherry Reham, an inexperienced woman for diplomacy had been appointed as a Ambassador for US purely on political ground. The present newly elected government must take care very much for appointing any Ambassador to US being an Influential state of the world.

well with the govt change she was going to be removed as ambassador anyway. Ambassadors to US are strategically placed by govts in power, they like to see one of their favorites in these roles

However, there is due process and time to leave once the replacement is in place. That is how things are done by every other nation. Foreign office posts are not a world drama, specially for an ambassador of a nation.
