PESHAWAR, May 13: The candidate of various political parties from four different constituencies of Swabi district on Monday rejected the election results and demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to order re-election on the seats.
This demand was made by JUI-F candidate from NA-12 Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, PTI candidate from PK-31 Yousaf Ali, Jamaat-i-Islami candidate from PK-32 Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, PTI candidate Zahoor Ahmad, PPP’s Malik Jehan Akbar and JI’s from PK-33 Mehmoodul Hassan and other local candidates, including PTI contestant Engineer Zubair, ANP’s Mohammad Ashfaq Khan and JUI-Ideological’s Maulana Saleh Mohammad Zubair during a joint press conference at Peshawar Press Club.
Accusing Awami Jamhori Ittehad, a panel of different political parties, of seizing polling stations in local constituencies, Ashfaq Khan said bogus votes had been polled with support of the presiding officers and other ECP staff.
He alleged that AJI candidates had spent millions of rupees for purchasing votes and that it they had broken all records of rigging in the Na-31 constituency and violated the ECP code of conduct.
Mr Ashfaq said a polling station was established in Sheikh Maltoon, where bogus votes were polled with help of a large number of nurses and lady health workers.
He said clashes among political workers were also reported, while police supported to the people involved in rigging.
Mr Mushtaq said staff of Nadra and postal office were also involved in rigging due to which 80 per cent postal ballots were not received, and used in favour of AJI panel.
He said polling was stopped for an hour in NA-31 despite clear instructions from ECP for carry ing out the electoral process without interval.
He alleged that polling staff had polled bogus votes during the break.
The candidates demanded of ECP to immediate declare the results in NA-31, and PK-31, 32 and 33 constituencies null and void, and announce fresh election there otherwise they would agitate.
PML-N REJECTS MARDAN ELECTIONS: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Monday accused Awami National Party of rigging the elections on the NA-9 Mardan seat and demanded that ECP declare the results null and void and announce re-election.
The allegation was made by PML-N central senior vice president Khawaja Mohammad Khan Hoti during a news conference at Peshawar Press Club.
Mr Khawaja Hoti, who was the PML-N candidate and lost the elections to ANP candidate Ameer Haider Khan Hoti from NA-9, said the elections was not held in fair and transparent manner in the constituency as the ECP staff supported the ANP leader.
He said his position was very clear and he was confident to win the polls but that didn’t happen due to massive rigging.
“How can I accept the results when my rival candidate had managed to post the election staff of his choice in the constituency as the former chief minister and despite his complaints, ECP did not take notice to reshuffle the staff,” he said.
Mr Khawaja Hoti said more than 7,200 unregistered votes were polled in the constituency.
He alleged that the polling staff had stamped the ANP election symbol in women polling stations, while asked the voters for only pressing thump on the ballot papers. He said ECP should check the bogus votes.
The PML-N candidate said he had repeatedly requested police to be neutral and impartial, but they continued to support his rival candidate.
He said ANP men had also shot at and injured one of his workers but police acted indifferently.
He demanded that ECP order re-election in NA-9 constituency and appoint impartial and neutral staff for it.
EX-MINISTER ALLEGED RIGGING IN KARAK: Former provincial minister for prisons Mian Nisar Gul on Monday alleged that he was defeated by the district administration and that local police had campaigned for his opponent candidate.
He made the allegation during a news conference here at his residence.
The former minister alleged that ballot papers polled for him at dozen polling stations were stolen by police and that ballot papers were stamped by them in favour of PTI candidate for PK-40 Gul Sahib Khan.
The former minister said he had given written complaint to ECP office for action against local police but to no avail.
He said his workers were harassed by police at polling stations and that despite repeated requests, no security was provided to him though PTI candidate Gul Sahib Khan and his father, Noor Daraz, were given full security cover.
He alleged that district police officer, Karak Ateequllah Wazir was involved in his manipulated defeat.
Also in the day, supporters of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Sami candidate for NA-15 Maulana Shah Abdul Aziz and supporters of Mian Nisar Gul took to the streets to demand re-election in the constituency.
They gathered at Karak city before marched on the office of district returning officer.
The protestors later staged a sit-in outside the DRO office and demanded re-election.
