WHILE the results of elections are almost completed, now we can see the people of three provinces have chosen different parties to rule in their respective provinces for the next five years.

It is not a good sign for the integrity of the already polarised society. However, it is the responsibility of the PML-N to accept the mandate of the PTI and the PPP and let them make the provincial governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.

It may be recalled that after the 1970 general elections we were unable to accept and honour the mandate of the Awami League in East Pakistan and as a result we lost a major part of this country.

We are hoping that the PML-N will prove itself as a genuine democratic party and will not try to repeat the history of Jam Sadiq.

Bullet brains I WOULD like to congratulate Nawaz Sharif for his victory in elections. His regime could be a blessing for the nation if he concentrated on fundamentals where improvement is urgently required like energy, education, health services, industrial production expansion and operational improvement in PIA, Pakistan Railways and Pakistan Steel Mills.

His election promise for bullet trains is an impossible dream given the current economic situation of Pakistan. At the moment, we need to focus on the issues at hand, and produce bullet brains that would overcome our challenges.

Charity begins at home IMRAN KHAN and the PTI have been talking incessantly of a change for the last so many months. Well, charity begins at home and it would have been nice to see a welcome change from his side.

A congratulatory call to Nawaz Sharif, quite obviously the next prime minister, would have set this new standard. Even if he considered such a call to be damaging to his ego, at least congratulations could have been mentioned in his message from the hospital.

Can we expect a change in his response to Nawaz Sharif’s invitation to sit with him to tackle Pakistan’s major challenges? I think we need a positive response from him regardless of the abrasion of the election campaign.

A cricketer of his stature knows that while the bat may be capable of hitting boundaries in all corners of the field, the same bat can get him out hit-wicket.

May a speedy recovery allow Imran to play a positive role soon.
