LAHORE, May 14: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Syed Munawar Hasan has called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan to announce re-polling in Karachi and Hyderabad to restore its image in the eyes of the nation and the world community.
Talking to different delegations at Mansoora on Tuesday, he said since there was irrefutable evidence of rigging and bogus voting at polling stations in the port city, the ECP could not convince the masses that the elections had been fair, free and transparent.
He pointed out that the ballot papers counted at some polling stations were up to four times of the total number of registered votes there which was a mockery of elections.
Hasan also urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of massive rigging in the elections in Karachi and direct the ECP for re-polling in Karachi to end the unrest among the people there and to enable them to choose their representatives in a free and peaceful atmosphere.
JUI-F: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl on Tuesday sought re-polling at various constituencies of Federally Administered Tribal Area.
“JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman has formally written a letter to the ECP in this regard. He has also appended proofs of rigging in various Fata constituencies,” JUI Secretary Information Maulana Muhammad Amjad Khan said while talking to media here.
He said since his party had obtained 10 national and 28 provincial assembly seats in general elections according to unofficial results, the party was still awaiting results in various constituencies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
He urged the ECP to ensure release of results in a prompt manner besides ordering re-polling in the constituencies in question.
