BAHAWALPUR, May 9: The District Council at its meeting held here on Friday approved Rs30 million for the development schemes in the Bahawalpur district.

Speaking on the occasion, district Nazim Tariq Cheema said the approved amount would be utilized for the construction of roads, laying of sewerage and electrification in rural areas.

He informed the house that a squash court and a gymnasium had been constructed at a cost of Rs15 million. Besides, he said Rs2.5 million would be utilized to install floodlights in the Bahawalpur stadium.

He asked the members to fix priorities for the uplift projects in their respective areas and inform the secretariat for their implementation.

Community Development EDO Riaz Tarar informed the house that a sum of Rs50 million had been allocated for the Bahawalpur district under the Citizen Community Board.

The council also approved the amount for purchasing modern electronic material and equipment for the local public relations department.

SURRENDER: Abdul Malik alias Kalloo, one of the two alleged killers of Nadeem Qureshi, on Friday gave himself up to Kotwali police.

The other alleged killer Nadeem alias Rangeela is still at large.

Nadeem and Abdul Malik had stabbed to death their friend Nadeem Qureshi on Thursday.
