SWABI, May 23: All public sector educational institutions in Dagai area remained closed on Thursday for the third consecutive day to protest the killing of a teacher.

The call for protest was given by local teachers.

Awal Sher, a certified teacher in the Government High School, Dagai, was gunned down by two motorcyclists when he was returning home from school four days ago.

The other day, local residents, including teachers and students, staged a rally, where local residents, especially teachers and students, showed up in large numbers.

Protesters demanded immediate arrest of killers and exemplary punishment for them.

They said schools would remain closed until killers were arrested.

Liaquat Yousufzai, one of the Dagai jirga members, said it was the third incident of targeted killing in the region but police had failed to arrest killers.

“We want police to expose and arrest killers of Awal Sher and others,” he said.

He warned that more demonstrations would follow if the teacher’s killers were not arrested.

It is learnt that the Kalu Khan station house officer has contacted teacher leaders and requested them to give him some time for the arrest of killers.

Meanwhile, All Teacher Association has threatened closure of schools and colleges across the district over the killing of the teacher.
