GILGIT, May 28: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has approved establishment of development agencies for Gilgit and Skardu districts. A notification in this regard was issued by the Chief Minister Secretariat.

Officials said experts tasked with conducting feasibility study for setting up such bodies took three years to complete their work.

Officials said funds for the purpose would be allocated in the upcoming budget. They said once these bodies were set up development work would be distributed among various organisations.

They said huge burden on public works department will decrease and its responsibilities would be shared by other development authorities.

Meanwhile, the officials said two mega projects were being launched soon to overcome sewerage problems. They said an estimated Rs4.5 billion would be incurred on completion of the projects.

SERVICES REGULARISED: The government on Tuesday regularised services of ad hoc employees of water and power department as well as information technology teachers, according to a notification.

Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah, while addressing a press conference here, said his government would fulfill all the promises it had made with the people. He said despite financial crunch 4,300 employees of water and power department were being regularised.

He said 75 teachers of information technology section of the education department were also being regularised. —Correspondent
