KARACHI, May 29: Eighth seed Iran thumped top seed Pakistan straight 3-0 to top group ‘A’ in the inaugural Asian team snooker championship at Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday.

However, despite suffering loss in their last group fixture, Pakistan was through to the last eight alongside Iran having beaten Kuwait and Hong Kong on Tuesday.

According to results made available here, world amateur snooker champion Mohammad Asif, who added regional 6-Redball title to his tally on Monday, lost the first frame to his opponent 58-80, while national champion Hamza Akbar followed suit by conceding the next 7-68. The pair of Asif and Mohammad Majid Ali lost the doubles 7-49 to suffer a whitewash. At the time of filing this report, Pakistan was playing quarter-final against Afghanistan.
