SUKKUR, May 11: Former federal minister Islamuddin Shaikh, who is facing a bank loan default case, was released on bail here on Saturday.

The Supreme Court had granted Mr Shaikh bail on May 6 and his bail documents reached here on Saturday.

He was taken to his house in Sukkur in a big procession, led by MPA Dr Nasrullah Baloch, MPA Anwar Ali Mahar and other People’s Party Parliamentarians leaders.

Later, he was admitted to a hospital,

Mr Shaikh is nominated in a National Accountability Bureau case, according to which he is a defaulter of Rs1.76 billion loans, taken from the Bankers Equity, Allied Bank and the Habib Bank for different projects, including those of sugar mills.

POWER THEFT: The chief of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company HAS sacked an SDO of the company after a case of power theft was uncovered.

According to information collected by this correspondent, a domestic electricity connection, with a sanctioned load of 1kw, was being used for commercial purposes.

The Hesco officials later extended the load to 8kw without fulfilling departmental formalities.—Correspondent
