Pakistan protests after diplomat manhandled in New Delhi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi lodged an official protest with the Indian government on Monday night after its first secretary Zargham Raza was reportedly manhandled by an unidentified mob.
According to details gathered so far, Raza was manhandled by a group of unknown motorcyclists when he was busy shopping in the evening. Both Raza and his driver reportedly sustained injuries in the attack.
According to diplomatic sources, Islamabad has urged a probe into the matter and also demanded the Indian authorities to increase security of the Pakistani staff stationed there.
“Our first secretary and his driver both of whom sustained serious injuries have been provided medical treatment and an FIR (police complaint) has also been lodged,” Aizaz Ahmed, Pakistan's foreign office spokesman was quoted by NDTV.
Officials in the Indian foreign ministry and Pakistani authorities were not immediately available to react to the press reports.
According to another Hindi-language news channel, Raza did not suffer any serious injuries.
Relations between the two countries have been fractious in recent weeks, with both sides protesting at the deaths of prisoners held by the other's government.
The latest incident comes after the murder of Indian prisoner in a Pakistani jail, which was followed by the murder of a Pakistani prisoner in an Indian jail last month.

How is this your top story ? I understand why it needs to be reported - but I don't understand why this needs to be given priority as a story. Perhaps we grown accustomed to bash India(replace with Pakistan if you're in India) for the smallest of infractions. and slowly fall accustom to blind nationalism.
This doesn't help anybody.

Pease don't hide the real story and provoke unnecessary attention. The incident happened due to an accident caused by his car he was travelling in, when he did not step out of the car and offer apologies the public got angry and manhandled both the driver and Mr. Raza.
Common man on the street does not know the status of the person inside the car, this is how people react in any part of the world. Once Police stepped in he was protected and taken away from the scene.
Don't hide the story why it happened. It is an insult to Journalism.....

The incident happened near my home.A bike coming from the wrong side was hit by the SUV.A lady sitting on the bike fell down and this led to the scuffle.He had no idea that the man was a diplomat and hence it is incorrect to relate this to the attack on prisoners.A normal pakistani when reads the article he smells a planned attack which is not the case..

That's not what they are saying in Delhi. The diplomat's car had an accident and knocked down a motorcycle. The person retaliated and roughed up the driver as well as the passenger.

Wow! Slow news day in Pakistan? As per Indian news agencies, a motorcyclist had a collosion with the car/suv and, thereby sustaining some injuries. The motorcyclist's aunt also sustained injuries. The motorcyclist entered into a heated arument with the driver of the car and the car's passenger (this "Diplomat") got hurt when he tried to intervene. As is perfectly normal in South Asia, a crowd gathered to watch the "tamasha". Subsequently, the motorcyclist was detained by police for questioning. There were "no" serious injuries to the Pakistani Diplomat or his driver, though the Indian Govt, through an abundance of caution, took them to a Hospital. Thats all there is to it. It is funny to see Paksitan (over)react like this for such a minor incident!

This is a case of half-baked journalism. The diplomats car apparently hit a two-wheeler on the road and the pillion rider fell on the ground and hurt herself. After that when he still did not step-out of the car, the crowd grew hostile.
It was nothing to do with being a Pakistani diplomat. If you drive a car and happen to hit anyone on the road and instead of stepping out and helping, refuse to take any moral responsibility, then crowd-hostility is inevitable

didn't mention the reason, that they made an accident , where a two wheeler driver and woman pillion rider sustain injuries and even after the incident they just stay back in the car and didn't come out. This is the ill journalism of Pakistan as a country

It is clearly a pre arranged attack organized by intelligence agencies otherwise a common man hardly knows who the person (a foreign diplomat) is and is hardly aware of their activities. whatever has happened is highly condemned being unethical and immoral. such acts where ever take place must be discouraged. I hold indian govt solely responsible. It proves beyond doubt that they are not serious about their claims of good neighborly relations which is in the benefit of people of both the neighbors but unfortunately not in the interest of Indians political elites.

Diplomats are not supposed to come out of their car in any condition. They should call the local authorities and stay inside. May be the illiterate indian morons road couldnt read the sign on the car saying it belongs to Pakistani Consulate. Ever heard of Diplomatic immunity?

Poor reporting from Dawn..this was a road incident where the Diplomat's car knocked down a couple on motorbike leading to fight between the driver of the diplomat's car driver and subsequently when the Diplomat intervened, with the Diplomat..please provide facts to readers and not spin!
