LAHORE, June 4: The process of reshuffle in police has formally been initiated following May 11 elections as police authorities have so far transferred and posted 11 police officers, including six field officers, across the province while two others have proceeded on long leave.

In third administrative move after elections, acting Inspector General of Punjab Police Khan Baig transferred and posted five police officers on Tuesday.

Field officers picked by former IGP Aftab Sultan as his team before general election 2013 have started getting themselves transferred.

The first field officer who was transferred was Rawalpindi SSP (Operations) Mujahid Akbar Khan followed by Lahore City SP (Operations) Adeel Husain Chandio by former IGP Aftab Sultan.

Mr Sultan also got himself transferred soon after the elections as per his commitment with caretaker Chief Minister Najam Sethi. Capital City Police Officer Lahore Khaliq Dad Lak and Lahore DIG (Operations) Jawad Ahmad Dogar have also proceeded on long leave and posts have been lying vacant for the last few days.

On Tuesday, the sixth field officer was Lahore Saddar SP (Investigation) Mustafa Hameed Malik who was transferred and sent to his previous position where he was serving before polls.

According to a handout issued on Tuesday, Lahore Saddar SP (Investigation) Mustafa Hameed Malik has been transferred and posted Punjab Telecommunication SP, Lahore, against an existing vacancy; awaiting posting Tariq Mahmood has been posted Lahore Security Division SP Security-II vice Mansoor Naji who has been transferred and posted SP/Battalion Commander, Battalion No 05, Punjab Constabulary Lahore; SP/Battalion Commander, Battalion No 05 Punjab Constabulary Lahore Syed Jafar Abbas has been transferred and posted Deputy Director, Elite Police Force, Punjab, Lahore; and AIG Inspection, Central Police office, Mrs Khalida Khurshid has been transferred and directed to report to the Central Police Office.

Sources at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat told Dawn that regional police officers of Rawalpindi and Gujranwala and at least six district police officers, including that of Sialkot, Sargodha, Rahim Yar Khan, would either get themselves transferred or would not resist their transfers.

They said a major police shuffle would take place after the appointment of new IGP after June 6. Punjab Counter Terrorism Department Additional IG Nasir Khan Durrani and Mushtaq Amhad Sokahira (presently Balochistan IG) are being considered for the top slot while DIGs Chauhdry Shafique Ahmad Gujjar and Aamir Zulfiqar Khan are being considered for the post of Lahore CCPO.

Sources in the Punjab police said some field SPs in Lahore and other city districts would also not resist their transfers in days to come. — MUHAMMAD FAISAL ALI
