MQM to observe 'day of mourning' on Thursday

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday announced that it would observe a "peaceful day of mourning in Sindh" on Thursday in protest of the abduction and killing of four of its supporters.

In a statement issued here today, the MQM's Rabita (Coordination) Committee has appealed to traders, businessmen and transporters in Sindh to keep their businesses shut on Thursday in protest of illegal abduction, violence and target killings, extortion practices and death threats, especially in Karachi.

Earlier Wednesday, police had recovered four bullet-riddled bodies from Jam Goth in the Malir area of Karachi. The four had been kidnapped from Landhi area before being gunned down.

On Tuesday, the MQM had also filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court seeking whereabouts of 'missing party workers'. Petitioner Dr Farooq Sattar as many as nine party workers had been kidnapped by Rangers and police during the past four months.
